Task Force on Inequality and American Democracy Releases Report at National Press Club - June 7, 2004

The APSA Task Force on Inequality and American Democracy relead its public report at a National Press Club briefing on June 7. The event featured commentary by Thomas Mann, Brookings Institution; Norman Ornstein, American Enterprise Institute; William Kristol, The Weekly Standard; Lawrence Jacobs, Task Force Chair, University of Minnesota and Theda Skocpol, Task Force Member, Harvard University.
The public report discusses the accomplishments of American democracy here at home as well as some of the remaining challenges -- such as low voter turnout and the significant impact of campaign finance. As the country readies itself for the upcoming presidential campaign, the report provides a larger perspective on the state of American democracy today.
Scholars will also be interested the two other parts to the report -- a set of teaching materials and 3 long reviews of existing research. All this material can be found on the Task Force web site.
