PHOTOGRAPHIC PROOF of Baghdad staged toppling

The photographs tell the story... media manipulation on a grand scale. Yes, the occupation has begun.

Staged "Liberation" media event?
by against occupation 5:43am Thu Apr 10 '03 (Modified on 5:03pm Thu Apr 10 '03)

April 6th: Iraqi National Congress founder, Ahmed Chalabi is flown into the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriyah by the Pentagon. Chalabi, along with 700 fighters of his "Free Iraqi Forces" are airlifted aboard four massive C17 military transport planes. Chalabi and the INC are Washington favorites to head the new Iraqi government. A photograph is taken of Chalabi and members of his Free Iraqi Forces militia as they arrive in Nasiriyah.

April 9th: One of the "most memorable images of the war" is created when U.S. troops pull down the statue of Saddam Hussein in Fardus Square. Oddly enough... a photograph is taken of a man who bears an uncanny resemblance to one of Chalabi's militia members... he is near Fardus Square to greet the Marines. How many members of the pro-American Free Iraqi Forces were in and around Fardus Square as the statue of Saddam came tumbling down?

The up close action video of the statue being destroyed is broadcast around the world as proof of a massive uprising. Still photos grabbed off of Reuters show a long-shot view of Fardus Square... it's empty save for the U.S. Marines, the International Press, and a small handful of Iraqis. There are no more than 200 people in the square at best. The Marines have the square sealed off and guarded by tanks. A U.S. mechanized vehicle is used to pull the statue of Saddam from it's base. The entire event is being hailed as an equivalent of the Berlin Wall falling... but even a quick glance of the long-shot photo shows something more akin to a carefully constructed media event tailored for the television cameras.

Well done, Sherlock!

We confess. The US isn't even in Iraq at all -- we're filming the so-called war in Area 51. It's the same sound stage where we faked the Moon landing in '69.

What are ya gonna do about it?
are you being facetious (i wouldn't give you the credit of being 'witty')--

or do you, at *minimum*, admit that it's Chalabi's INC pal in the photograph . . .

and that the entire charade *was* staged for the media by external agitators?
> do you, at *minimum*, admit that it's Chalabi's INC pal
> in the photograph . . .

Looks like him. So what if it is? What, do you suppose that Iraqis never travel, but remain in their primitive villages all their lives, like medieval Anglo-Saxons? How neo-imperialist of you to think so. Isn't it possible, even likely, that some Iraqis followed the coalition troops on their march north?

> and that the entire charade *was* staged for the media

It wasn't a "charade" -- it was a newsworthy event. And if it was staged, so what? The left not only doesn't have a problem staging "anti-war" protests for the media, you send out frickin' PRESS RELEASES, fer crisake, and orchestrate events for the teevee cameras.

See, that's the problem with trying to claim the moral high ground. You *can't,* unless you want to admit, *at minimum,* that you're a bloody hypocrite.
CNN reported today that the marines decided to roll into Baghdad because CNN started broadcasting footage of anti-Saddam rallies in Eastern Baghdad.

At precisely the same moment that these "spontaneous" events were happening, Dick Cheney was brought out of his undisclosed location to pronounce that the Iraqi Regime had fallen.

My favorite shot from the "crowd" outside the Palestine Hotel was of a typical "shabab" with a large sign reading "HUMAN SHIELD - go home US wankers!" Could have been written by one of our own dear indymedia trolls!!

Things almost went seriously off message when Martin Savidge's convoy's cheering crowds suddenly disappeared and were replaced by incoming bullets and rockets. Amid the sounds of huge explosions, he reported that his convoy had taken defensive formation, and that his vehicle was broken down amid enemy fire.

Luckily, they could cut away to the statue.

Langley and the Pentagon got their pictures. Less clear what the Iraqi people are getting.
No kidding.........

And just how many Iraqi people know the American slang word "wankers" ?

For propaganda to work, it has to be 100% believable. This whole festival around the statue smells.

"problem with trying to claim the moral high ground"

--YOU'RE the one bringing it up. No moral high ground to be had in Baghdad, Najaf, Basra these days . . .

and the millions of people in Spain, Italy, Germany, Indonesia, Australia, England, France who demonstrated against this war . . . all just a big "media stunt" right?

FUCK YOU, asshole. Those millions--and the Iraqi people-- have much more get-up-'n'-go than lazy fascist asses like you and the US military ever will.

Your 'Iraq war' [more like a shove-over of an impoverished, sanction-ridden regime run by a dime-store, US-installed dictator, at the expense of thousands of innocent lives] is FAR from over--

the US military occupation has only just begun . . .

BTW, whatever happened to Afghanistan?
http://162.42.211.226/article2842.htm (infoclearinghouse)

this shows the 'huge' crowd clearly and has some interesting points to make about it.

Funny how a crowd of 1 million protestors anti-war barely rates a mention yet a few US plants and a handful of Iraqis gets hours and hours of groundhog day re-runs.

and then there is a nice article about the psyops operation at

Since when is "wanker" an American slang term? Last I checked, it was more British. . .
'Curious' presents his logical, rational rebuttal:

> FUCK YOU, asshole.

Sweet. Yeah, that'll convince people.

> Your 'Iraq war' [more like a shove-over of an
> impoverished, sanction-ridden regime run by a dime-store,
> US-installed dictator,

Oh, right, "Bush is Hitler." Got it. Millions will swoon at your impeccable logic.

> the US military occupation has only just begun

Yeah, yeah, "US Out of Iraq NOW," so that Saddam's thugs can pick up where they left off, torturing and killing their subjects. Yeah, we'll just betray them AGAIN.

> BTW, whatever happened to Afghanistan?

US troops are hunting down al-Qaeda and bin Laden, and we're doing our damndest to bring the country into the modern world.

But you've already betrayed yourself -- you don't give a rat's ass about Afghanistan, or Iraq. It's all about Bush. It's *always* been about Bush.
I dunno, I think the guy on the left is actually Billy Joel.
